About Huan Ning

Computational data scientist researching autonomous GIS, geospatial AI agents, and AI for Science.

Huan Ning profile

I am a computational data scientist and researcher working at the intersection of geospatial AI, autonomous GIS, and AI for Science. My research applies artificial intelligence, spatial data, and software engineering to understanding natural and societal processes.

I have been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Emory University. I earned a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, and a bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science from Wuhan University, China. I also studied Information Systems at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Before my academic research career, I worked for more than ten years in the spatial data industry as an engineer, developer, manager, and chief technology officer. My work spans geospatial agents, spatial public health, urban informatics, human mobility, and street-view analysis.

My recent projects include autonomous geospatial data retrieval, interactive hourly population mapping, and mosquito larval habitat prediction. I am particularly interested in developing AI agents that can support scientific discovery.
